ABC 2011 National Chairman Michael Uremovich presents a National Excellence in Construction Eagle Award to Straub Construction President Ernie Straub III and Executive Vice President/COO Parker Young. The award was presented for the historic renovation of Entertainment Properties Trust offices in Kansas City, Mo.

WASHINGTON, D.C . – Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) announced that Straub Construction Company, Inc.’s work on the Entertainment Properties Trust project (EPR) in Kansas City, Mo., has earned the company an Eagle Award in the Historical Restoration – $2-$10 million category of ABC’s Excellence in Construction Awards. Straub Construction Company’s representatives received the award during the 21st annual Excellence in Construction Awards celebration at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Orlando, Fla.

The Excellence in Construction awards program is the industry’s leading competition, developed to honor innovative and high-quality merit shop construction projects and safety programs. The award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer.

The winning projects, selected from entries submitted from across the nation, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost.

This year’s competition was open to all construction projects completed by ABC member firms in 2010.

Despite several client-initiated changes, Straub completed this $2.5 million design-build historical office restoration within a tight workspace and ahead of its aggressive 11-week time frame.

“This project demonstrates our capabilities and commitment to our customers’ success,” said Ernie Straub III, president of Straub Construction. “It was a pleasure to work with a great customer like Entertainment Properties Trust and a great project team.”

A panel of industry experts served as the competition’s judges. This year’s panel included representatives from the Design-Build Institute of America, Engineering News-Record, the American Institute of Architects, and the National Association of Women in Construction, and representatives from higher education, among others.

In February Straub Construction earned “2010 General Contractor of the Year” award from the local ABC chapter.
