Shawnee, Kan., November 14, 2008 –Straub Construction Kansas City was awarded the J. Timothy Anderson Awards for Excellence in Historic Rehabilitation for the Georgian Court Apartments project.

The historic renovation project includes a total of 75,188 square feet with 92 one- and two-bedroom apartments. The project, located at 400 E. Armour Road in Kansas City, Mo., involved complete interior demolition and historic restoration of some interior and exterior features.

“This project was all about partnering,” said Jim Calvert, vice president of business development for Straub Construction Company. “Between government agencies, an experienced owner, the innovative design group and a dedicated team of subcontractors, this dilapidated structure was brought back to life and will bring safe, quality housing back to Armour Boulevard.”

Georgian Court Apartments was originally a luxury hotel built in the 1920s with 24 apartments. Straub Construction Kansas City worked closely with Rosin Preservation, Inc. Together, significant historical aspects of the building were preserved while allowing Rosemann & Associates of Kansas City, Mo. to design all new apartments of the highest quality.

The “Timmy” awards honor outstanding rehabilitation and preservation projects based on overall design and quality, interpretation and respect of historic elements, impacts on the community and financial and market success. The National Housing & Rehabilitation Association (NH&RA) presented the award at the fourth annual awards reception in Boston on Oct. 28.
