Straub project earns LEED Gold certification
Once-abandoned athletic complex wins LEED certification
The skeleton of a would-be southern Johnson County soccer complex that sat vacant and barren for nearly two years now is considered one of the most eco-friendly public recreation centers in the area.
A local architecture firm announced Wednesday that it designed the reuse of Johnson County Park & Recreation District’s New Century Fieldhouse — the first public recreation center in the Kansas City metro area to receive any level of LEED certification. Shawnee-based Straub Construction Co. Inc. built the fieldhouse, which is located at 551 New Century Parkway near Gardner, Kan., for roughly $4.8 million, while DLR Group’s architect fees totaled nearly $400,000 for the reuse project, according to Johnson County.
