Employee Spotlight: Connor Wentz-Hall, Superintendent

Connor Wentz-HallBy Hannah Morrey Brown, Project Manager at Straub Construction.

The team here at Straub is excited to welcome Conner Wentz-Hall to our company as a superintendent! He interned for us last summer before his senior year and made the decision to come back full-time after his graduation this past spring. Conner attended Pitt State University where he received a degree in Construction Management.

Although the majority of Conner’s family is in the railroad business, he wanted to try something a little different – he knew he wanted hands-on type work and to be outside as much as possible which led him to construction! Conner is most excited about the different types of projects he can gain experience on as a superintendent with Straub and the thrill of watching a project go from startup to completion.

He also had this to say about why he chose Straub, “Aside from the project experience, it means a lot to be more than just a number even as an intern or a new hire.”

Conner hails from Tonganoxie, KS, where he still lives with his family. Outside of work he enjoys being outdoors doing anything from kayaking to camping. We’re so glad Conner is a member of our team, please join us in welcoming him to Straub Construction!

Employee Spotlight: Justin Briggs, Superintendent

By Hannah Morrey Brown, Project Manager at Straub Construction.

Justin-BriggsAll of us here at Straub would like to welcome Justin Briggs to the team as a superintendent!

After interning for us last summer, we’re excited that Justin made the decision to come on full time after his graduation this spring. Justin attended Missouri State where he majored in Construction Management.

Justin became interested in construction after having multiple family members and friends work in the industry. He also enjoyed his construction internships through college. His favorite aspect of this work is the start to finish progression and seeing the tangible change as a project comes together. As a superintendent, Justin is most excited about running his own project and the accomplishment of seeing a project through from start to finish.

Justin is from Creighton, MO, and currently resides in Garden City. Outside of work he enjoys almost anything outdoors including hiking, hunting, and fishing.  He’s also excited to be getting a lab puppy later this summer.

We’re thrilled to have Justin as a part of our team. Please join us in welcoming him to Straub Construction!

CREW Kansas City’s Annual Dinner

By Hannah Morrey Brown, Project Manager at Straub Construction.

CREW Kansas City - 2019 Annual Membership DinnerI recently had the opportunity to help organize the annual CREW Kansas City membership dinner. I’ve been a member of CREW KC since November 2017 and have had the opportunity to serve on a committee, volunteer with fellow CREW women, and participate in CREW’s mentorship program.

CREW Network, which stands for Commercial Real Estate Women, started in Kansas City in 1987 and has grown to over 100 members from around the metro.

“CREW KC was formed with the intention of banding together the women of Kansas City’s commercial real estate industry to further the dialogue about women in real estate and collaborate professionally.”

CREW hosts a variety of events from quarterly luncheons on local market topics, networking morning coffees, and local job site tours.

Our dinner provided the opportunity to introduce new members to CREW and provide information about how to get further involved. We were also honored to have Gayle Packer, CEO of Terracon, speak on the many different paths your career can take and how to always be ready to accept a new challenge.

It was a great evening welcoming new members and celebrating CREW’s local accomplishments!

Happy 4th from Straub Construction

Happy 4th from Straub ConstructionMany of us refer to Independence Day as the Fourth of July. And we know that it’s a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the Declaration of Independence of the United States on July 4, 1776. (You may not remember that the Continental Congress declared that the thirteen American colonies were no longer subordinate to the monarch of Britain and were now independent states.)

We look forward to family reunions, fireworks, baseball games, parades and barbecues. We get a day off from work… and some of us will use the opportunity to take a trip and make it a long weekend.

This Independence Day, take a step back and cherish your life and the country you live in while appreciating the sacrifices people made to give us independence.

These are all good things. We hope you enjoy your time off with friends and family. Happy 4th of July from your friends at Straub Construction.
