2021 Week of Giving

Every year for the past 7 years, Straub has come together for a Week of Giving – where we support local non-profit organizations and turn our gratitude into generosity.
This year we were able to support 3 local organizations, impacting over 1,000 Kansas City families.
Let’s learn more about these organizations and their impact on the metro area.

HappyBottoms

THE MISSION:
HappyBottoms collaborates with community partners to empower, connect, and impact low-income families by alleviating the diaper need in the KC community.

THE NEED:
One in three families does not have enough diapers to keep their child clean, dry and healthy. HappyBottoms wants to change that. Since 2009 Happy Bottoms have been covering the number of diapers a family is short each month, known as the diaper gap, in the Kansas City Metro Area.

They partner with over 53 agencies to serve over 2,337 children per year. Since 2009 they’ve distributed over 16,117,319 diapers to KC families in need.

OUR IMPACT:
Straub packed 28,000 diapers in a matter of 2 short hours – impacting roughly 250 families.

Thelma’s Kitchen at Reconciliation Services

THE MISSION:
Reconciliation Services’ mission is to cultivate a community seeking reconciliation to transform Troost from a dividing line to a gathering place, revealing the strength of all.

Located inside of Reconciliation Services, Thelma’s Kitchen is the first pay-what-you-can cafe in the metro. They meet very real needs in our area for affordable food access and to gather people together for vibrant community life. When we serve together and sit and share a meal together, we begin to understand what it means to be a community. Thelma’s Kitchen is a gathering place, where everyone is welcome.

THE NEED:
17% of the population in Jackson County, MO are food-insecure – about 117,270 individuals. 1 in 6 children in the US is food insecure. At Thelma’s, a suggested donation for a lunch is $11, you can donate a little extra to pay it forward, or donate whatever you can.

OUR IMPACT:
Straub helped with food prep, serve food from a to-go window, assemble box lunches, manage online orders and other miscellaneous tasks. 350 boxed lunches were distributed that day.

Shawnee Community Services

THE MISSION:
Shawnee Community Services exists to offer a hand up to those in need throughout Greater Kansas City. They serve customers with integrity and respect, giving them a hand up and the tools they need to be self-reliant and give back to our communities.

Shawnee Community Services is a local food pantry and free clothing resource, serving the KC metro since 1982. They are a non-governmental organization whose primary support comes from the resale of donated goods along with cash donations from local service clubs, churches, businesses and individuals.

THE NEED:
On average, 377 households per month benefit from pantry boxes, and 165 households benefit daily from the general free bakery and produce items.

OUR IMPACT:
Straub employees and their families assembled and distributed roughly 1,200 food boxes, helping to feed 300 families over the holiday season
