Intern Project
Each summer, our interns take the lead on a hands-on project that takes them through every phase of construction, from preconstruction and project management to the actual build. This unique opportunity allows them to gain real-world experience, develop valuable skills, and lay a strong foundation for their future careers in the industry. Through this project, interns work directly with subcontractors and actively contribute to decision-making, learning to manage schedules, budgets, procurement, and team coordination while gaining insight into the complexities of the field.
Past projects have included building a deck for a local community center and helping renovate a home for Mother’s Refuge, a non-profit dedicated to supporting women and children, among others. These hands-on experiences allow interns to make a tangible impact while refining their skills in construction management and teamwork.

Straub Construction is an equal opportunity employer. It is the policy of this company to comply with Federal Executive Order No. 11246, as amended, which prohibits discrimination against any employee or applicant for employment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, physical or mental handicap, disabled veteran or Vietnam Era veteran, in regard to any position for which the employee or applicant for employment is qualified.
Straub is not just about construction work; it’s about contributing to something that will benefit the community for years to come. I wanted to work for a company that truly cares about their role in the community.
Straub’s family-oriented atmosphere and strong moral values made it clear that people, not just profits, come first here. They prioritize the well-being and growth of their employees and their community, which was an important factor to me when deciding where I want to work. It shows they understand the bigger picture — that their work has the power to improve lives and bring the community together.
Former Intern
My internship with Straub gave me a valuable glimpse into all aspects of working for a general contractor. While I spent most of my time in the field, I also had the opportunity to shadow project managers and assist with preconstruction. It was beneficial to understand the full scope of the work, especially since it aligned with what I was learning in school.
Straub was also my first experience with a commercial general contractor, and it was eye-opening to see the amount of work involved in both the field and behind the scenes that most people never realize.
Former Intern
Straub’s internship gave me responsibilities that required managing subcontractors daily and constantly answering questions on-site. Managing people and learning firsthand how a building comes together is what prepared me most for my role now.
The internship also showed me all three phases of a general contractor company. I spent time in the field, learned from project manager, and gained experience in the preconstruction department with the estimators. It helped me discover the career path I wanted to pursue.
